Timelex proudly presents the book "Privacy and Technology Law in Europe - Privacy and Data Protection Law", which was written by Timelex Lawyer Jos Dumortier, Pieter Gryffroy and Ruben Roex, together with former Timelex lawyer Yung Shin Van Der Sype, and published on 12 August 2022.
The book is part of the International Encyclopaedia of Laws (IEL), a project that aims to provide access to legal systems worldwide by searching for suitable authors and supporting them in writing a book about the law of their country in a given field of law/field of practice. In total the IEL project covers 25 practice areas.
The authors of the current book are also responsible for editing the national monographs that are submitted for one of these practice areas, namely Privacy and Technology Law (formerly: cyber law), which has two parts: Information Technology Law and Privacy and Data Protection Law.
The book that was published today is a special edition under the Privacy and Data Protection component of the Privacy and Technology practice area. It provides an overview of Privacy and Data Protection Law on a European level rather than the national level, as is customary under the IEL project. The goal of this is to supplement the national books of EU countries so as to avoid duplication, as well as to centralize all relevant aspects on the European level in one place.
The authors hope that this book will provide an accessible yet thorough introduction to the European rules on Privacy and Data Protection for interested academics, students, and various legal practitioners around the world.
