Practice areas
Ezgi Ercan is specialised in privacy and data protection law. She advises organisations on European and global data protection laws. She conducts GDPR trainings, provides Data Protection Officer (DPO) services, and drafts policies and contracts. She also assists clients with data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), data breach notifications, and international data transfers. She is a qualified EuroPrivacy Implementer, and provides guidance with GDPR certification.
She has extensive practical and academic background in media and entertainment law. She advises companies in intellectual property rights, including copyright and related rights, domain names, trademarks, patents and trade secrets. She is knowledgeable about advertising law and unfair competition as well.
Ezgi also advises on the legal aspects of IT and telecoms, assisting companies with their inquiries relating to electronic communications law, electronic business law, electronic contracts law, and cybersecurity. She has a strong background in other fields, too, such as competition law and private international law.
In addition, she is involved in a number of research and consultancy projects funded by the European Commission. She provides legal advice as well as broader support to Timelex’s research partners in the context of these projects.

Ezgi is a member of the Ankara Bar Association (since July 2019) and of the Dutch-Speaking Bar Association at the Brussels Bar (B-List, since February 2023).

Prior professional experience
Before joining Timelex, Ezgi worked as a researcher at the Council of Europe Liaison Office to the EU, focusing on technology and human rights. She covered files relating to the freedom of expression and hate speech, the right to privacy, the right to non-discrimination, artificial intelligence, media, internet, and cybercrime.
She also acted as the Director for Delegations for ELSA International, where she was responsible for the Brussels-based NGO’s representation at the meetings of international organisations such as WIPO, WTO, ITU, OECD, UNCITRAL, and the Council of Europe.
Before moving to Brussels, Ezgi was an attorney-at-law in Turkey. She completed her legal training at BMK Law Office in Ankara. She also completed traineeships at the Turkish Competition Authority, the Turkish Capital Markets Board, and top-tier law firms in Istanbul, such as NSN Law Firm and Güner Law Office.
