Practice areas
Janvier Parewyck is specialised in privacy and data protection law. He conducts compliance audits and data protection impact assessment for public and private organisations, drafts and reviews data processing and other agreements, gives trainings, and assists clients in becoming GDPR and ePrivacy compliant in their day-to-day activities. He also has in-depth knowledge of international data transfer issues.
He is also specialised in IT law, such as e-commerce, software, cybersecurity, electronic communications, e-signatures and e-archiving services (eIDAS), and the drafting of various types of IT contracts.
He also has a thorough knowledge of other areas, such as intellectual property law (copyright, trademarks, designs, patents, trade secrets and domain names), EU law, international law and fundamental rights.
Janvier further advises clients on general business law and commercial contracts.
In addition, he is involved in cutting-edge legal consultancy and research projects in the areas of data protection, IT, e-health, personalized medicine and consumer protection, funded by the European Commission. In the context of these projects, he provides both legal and ethical advice and analysis as well as broader support to Timelex’s partners in these projects.
Professional admissions
Janvier has been a member of the French-speaking Bar Association at the Brussels Bar since February 2022.
Prior professional experience
Prior to joining Timelex in 2021, Janvier worked in the Privacy Office of ASML, a leading Dutch IT company and main supplier of machines for the semiconductor industry, where he performed data protection impact assessments, assisted in providing privacy guidance and privacy awareness, and handled data subject requests and data breach incidents.
He has also been part of the legal compliance team of LabBox Startup Incubator, a Brussels-based startup studio developing new mobility solutions relying on Apps.
He also worked at the Belgian League for Human Rights (League des droits humains), where he conducted legal research on various fundamental rights, such as data protection and the right to freedom of speech.
