On the 3rd of May 2019 Belgium’s first overarching cybersecurity law (dubbed the Network and Information Security or NIS Act) was published in the Official Gazette. This new law contains important cybersecurity obligations for a whole range of key economic and societal stakeholders. Several practical aspects of the new law will be further specified by Royal Decree, which is expected in the near future.

Timelex lawyer Yung Shin Van Der Sype will lead a session about the GDPR at the EELA (European Employment Lawyers Association) conference in Tallinn, Estonia.

EU institutions are intensively discussing the EC proposal for a regulation establishing the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre and the Network of National Coordination Centres. At the same time, four pilot projects are starting to experiment on core building blocks of the proposal, such as Cybersecurity governance in Europe, the application of Cybersecurity research to critical industry sectors, the availability, evaluation and usage of open tools for Cybersecurity, and the creation of a Cybersecurity research roadmap.

Timelex lawyers Jos Dumortier and Yung Shin Van Der Sype will be panel members at the Computers, Privacy and Data Protection Conference 2019. CPDP is an annual three-day conference devoted to privacy and data protection. The 12th edition of CPDP will be held on 30th January to 1st February 2019 in Brussels.
