PREVENT

The foundation of the PREVENT project lies in epidemiological studies that have highlighted a clear connection between obesity and increased risks of various cancer types, such as colon, endometrium, postmenopausal breast, and kidney cancer, among others.

PREVENT's approach involves establishing three Living Labs (LL) with the participation of around 6,000 individuals, engaging all relevant stakeholders to collaboratively design effective strategies for addressing childhood and adolescent obesity and its intricate link to cancer. Greece, Spain, and Sweden have been chosen as pilot countries for these Living Labs, serving as the groundwork for innovative solutions.

Additionally, PREVENT aims to reach out to over 10,000 schools and 3 million students aged 9-16 through extensive upscaling activities. By implementing interventions such as age-appropriate classroom education on healthy lifestyles, promoting healthier snacks and meals in school canteens, supporting physical activities both at school and community levels, and utilising both prevailing and innovative techniques, the PREVENT project seeks to make a lasting impact.

The project's objectives in addressing obesity in children and adolescents encompass creating communities of practice, analysing obesity determinants and intervention policies, and identifying cancer types associated with obesity. Engaging stakeholders, establishing digital infrastructure, and implementing dynamic approaches for behavioral change are also key focuses. Continuous assessment through clinical evaluations, user and social-related analyses, as well as economic and sustainability assessments, is an integral part of the project.
