The TrustChain project aims to build a secure, sustainable and human-centric internet by developing advanced Next Generation Internet protocols and decentralised software solutions. The project addresses critical challenges, such as trustworthy digital identities, secure and resilient data pathways, energy-efficient data sharing, and the creation of a new data governance model in line with the European values and regulations.
Top Internet innovators will be selected for funding and support through 5 open calls, each focused on key topics:
Decentralised digital identity
User privacy and data governance
Economics and democracy
Multi-chain support for Next Generation Internet (NGI) protocols
Green, scalable, and sustainable distributed ledger technologies (DLTs).
These calls support the development of cutting-edge solutions to break down data silos, ensure interoperability and explore privacy-preserving Web3 and blockchain technologies. By tackling these issues, the project empowers individuals and organisations to better govern their data and participate in trusted digital ecosystems.
Timelex is the legal partner in this three-year project. Timelex assesses the legal compliance of the open calls, focusing on privacy, data protection and key EU instruments such as the eIDAS Regulation and the NIS2 Directive. Timelex is developing a practical framework for assessing compliance and using the innovative results of the project to identify gaps in the regulatory framework. Our role extends to providing actionable recommendations for refining the regulatory framework to promote a robust legal environment that supports innovation while safeguarding human rights and European values.
